Dewar's Goes All Out for Repeal Day


Keep an eye out next week for this special Repeal Day New York Times. Dewar's is wrapping the Times in a special section promoting Repeal Day (and Dewar's Whisky) on Tuesday. Rumor has it there will be period-costumed newsboys running around and selling the Times on the streets of Manhattan.

Black Tot Day

This day in 1970 is known as Black Tot Day. On July 31, 1970 the Royal Navy discontinued the long-standing practice of providing daily rum rations for all of her sailors. Today it would be appropriate to drink a toast to all those sailors who now have to do without. To that end, I provide:

Navy Grog.

Navy Grog from Beachbum Berry's "Grog Log."
3/4 oz lime juice
3/4 oz grapefruit juice
3/4 oz honey
1 oz light Puerto Rican rum
1 oz dark Jamaican rum
1 oz Demerara rum
1 oz chilled club soda

Heat honey until liquid, then mix with juices in blender. Stir in rums and soda. Pour into a double old-fashioned galss filled with crushed ice.
